Layer by layer
a slow unravelling
of who I thought I was.
An idea, a story, a character
created and moulded by the world around me.
With each layer that comes off,
a light begins to shine through
radiating from deep within.
It was always there,
simply hidden
obscured by the labels that sought to define me
by the beliefs that tried to contain me.
Now being exposed as the layers gently dissolve,
my true essence rising to the surface.
A beauty that transcends,
a love that has no conditions,
potential that knows no limits.
That is what we are,
who we’ve always been.
The truth hiding in plain sight,
veiled by the role we came here to play
by the mask we simply forgot to take off.
